Open Letter to Cranmore Residents

Dear Cranmore Resident,

I am delighted to have been nominated as the Conservative  Candidate for the forthcoming district council by-election on 7th June.  The election has been caused by the very sad death of one of your Conservative Councillors, Clarissa Slade.  When elected she was the youngest councillor in the country and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

My wife and I live in the ward near the canal, I am from Newton Abbot, with my family coming originally from Morchard Bishop in Mid Devon.  My daughter lives locally and teaches in a Tiverton school which means that I get to see my grandchildren on a regular basis.

Having served as a police officer in Devon and Cornwall for almost 30 years, when living in Cornwall, I joined Bodmin town council in 2003 being Mayor four times and a cabinet member on Cornwall Unitary Council with responsibility for waste, crime and disorder, fire service and others. I have promoted improvements in local health services, a multi-million pound plan for Bodmin, negotiated financial benefits to the town with the Bodmin Gaol project and led the ‘Newquay Safe’ project working closely with the police, local organisations and residents to reduce crime by over 20%.

I have been fortunate in working with great teams gaining invaluable experience which I look forward to using here in Tiverton.

Looking at the excellent achievements of the District council there is a real desire to deliver the regeneration of Tiverton and build a sustainable future for all residents young and old and have the team to deliver the future.

I have worked closely with the Merlin cinema chain to deliver a major project in Bodmin and given the opportunity look forward to working with them again in the regeneration plans.

I am passionate about housing, health, policing and education which together we can deliver.

In asking to represent you, my own home and family I can make only one promise I know I can keep,

“I will do my best”
